I never knew my grandfather, but I do know that my great-grandfather had a newspaper. My grandfather and grandmother came to Kansas in a covered wagon and lived in a sod house as homesteaders. They had a dairy farm near Mankato, Kansas. My grandfather Ira wrote for the Mankato paper and my grandmother took over after he died. I now publish a little monthly newspaper here in Cedar Mill —ink in the blood!

My grandmother's sister Bernice Scott's son is the James Scott listed in the article, they got the relationship wrong but he was a reporter for the Kansas City Star. I wonder if he's still alive. I didn't really know him but I did spend time with Aunt Bernice when I visited my grandmother in Mankato as a child.

Two errors that I noticed in your notes: 1. The monument was dedicated in 1898 not in 1889. I have a copy of the original program from the dedication. Margaret Ann Evans Anderson, who lived in Seward, Nebraska ( my grandpa's mother) went back to the dedication. In the write up in the paper at the time it said she was a great granddaughter. However that was incorrect as she was his granddaughter.

And also Hannah was born in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pa. Thomas, Elizabeth and their family moved to Broad Top Mountain area in 1803 from Pitt Grove, Montgomery County, Pa. They settled on Trough Creek near Robertsdale, known as the White property.

After you've had time to digest this awhile let me know what you think. When you check all of those birth dates how could you possibly squeeze 7 more children in there. I really doubt that there were 21 even though that's how the story goes. The Bible only lists those that I have mentioned The list found in Hannah's Bible has the same list I've posted If there were more why weren't they mentioned some place.

I almost forgot 2. Is Thomas birth date. In the Bible and in Hannah's Bible it distinctly says 1741. Yet everyone always says 1739 and I can not figure out why. Explain if you can.

Please note in Carrol Tuzzolinas entry of 06/01/06, she lists
Ezekial Whites date of death as 16 Sept. 1814 at Andersonville Prison.
Actually, Andersonville Prison was not opened until 50 years later in
1864. It was located in southern Georgia, at least 1000 miles south of
the battle of Lundys Lane.

Thomas and Elizabeth (Jones) White had among their children,
a daughter Elizabeth, who married Henry Horton, my 3rd Great Grand
Uncle, making me 1st cousins 4 times removed of their eight children. I have the family information posted on Ancestry.com in the Cahill Family
Tree. It is public, so feel free to peruse. My maternal grandfather
often spoke of his "relationship" to a "James" White involved in the

My brothers, Robert and James, and I are five generations removed from Thomas White, tracing our ancestry to him through our paternal grandmother, Emma May Hamilton and her father, Silas Warren Hamilton who was born in Saxton, PA along the great Pennsylvanian Broad Top! Silas' parents were George C Hamilton and Rebecca White (born Saxton in 1829) and a great grand-daughter of the patriot Thomas White himself. Rebecca's parents were John Alloway White (b. 1801) and Sarah Horton(b. 1811)in West Chester, PA ........probably not far from where Elizabeth Jones was born in 1754-5. A good portion of the geneology my brother Robert and I have done on Thomas White and family was from two 1929 copies of The Horton History written by George W Alloway of Saxton PA, and I'm sure long out of print. John Alloway White mentioned earlier, was the son of Thomas A. White whose first wife was Rebecca Alloway (1782 - 1855. And of course Thomas A.'s parents were Thomas and Elizabeth White, he of Boston Tea Party fame in 1773 and she as the mother of 21 children. I still can't wrap my head around that one !!

My daughter Elizabeth Grace and I visited Bedford/Huntingdon Counties and the Saxton PA areas last August Together we saw Thomas and Elizabeth's gravesite (which my daughter thought was kind of creepy - I may have reacted the same when I was 20). The area cemetaries 'abound' with markers bearing the names of White, Horton,, Evans, and Hamilton.

I was so glad to come across your website while "surfing" through all my
geneology notes. There's a lot more I can share with you all.
